The Department of Physical Education (DPE) of the College of Education (CED) successfully hosted the stakeholders’ meeting on March 26, 2025, held at CED Amphitheater, bringing together faculty members, parents, students, alumni, public and private school high school teachers, and DepEd officials in Iligan City.
The purpose of the event was to assess the current status of the Bachelor of Physical Education (BPED) program and promote collaboration among key stakeholders.
Assistant Professor Vienna Lou Carbonell, the BPED program coordinator, emphasized the meeting’s rationale, which focused on gathering feedback, strengthening partnerships, and establishing concrete actions to improve the BPED curriculum. On the other hand, Dr. Chiedel Joan G. San Diego, the DPE chairperson, gave a comprehensive report on the program’s previous achievements and current challenges.
Stakeholders, including Dr. Nanette Kay Mercado and Mr. Manuel Rico, offered valuable insights. Dr. Mercado, DepEd’s MAPEH Education program supervisor, proposed introducing music as an elective to support the integration of music education in the BPED curriculum. Meanwhile, Mr. Rico, a parent, expressed pride in his son’s success, emphasizing the BPED program’s role in providing career opportunities.
Subsequently, a SWOT analysis workshop was facilitated by Assistant Professor Rovie Gretchel Bucad. The workshop highlighted the program's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Dr. Harlyn Mae Ompoc, DPE faculty member, provided the synthesis of the stakeholders meeting, magnified the need for versatile PE graduates who can teach MAPEH and integrate ICT in their teaching. She also highlighted the importance of aligning curriculum content with industry needs and the important role of parents in students’ success.
“The strength of the BPED program lies not only in its curriculum but in the collaboration we continue to build with our stakeholders”, San Diego said during her closing remarks.
