One of the major events during the Grand Alumni Homecoming held on December 19-20, 2024, was the ceremonial turnover of the biggest donation to the Endowment Fund. This was pledged by the Tabanao family, consisting of Mr. Ladislao Tabanao (Sir Ladi), Mr. Larizalito Tabanao, Mr. Lou Gonzalo Tabanao, and Ms. Emily Sumampong Tabanao who are all alumni of ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø-IIT.
The Tabanao siblings, through Sir Ladi, expressed their desire to give back to their alma mater by leaving a legacy that will hopefully aid the Institute’s programs, such as scholarships, personnel support, faculty, research and extension, infrastructure, and other programs.
Sir Ladi demonstrated his commitment in supporting ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø-IIT not just by pledging for the Endowment Fund but also by affirming his intention to rebuild the Association of IIT Alumni Foundation, Inc. (AIITAFI) as its incoming President.
Chancellor Alizedney M. Ditucalan expressed his gratitude to the family during the ceremony. The donation plays a crucial role in inspiring other alumni to be more involved in providing opportunities for their fellow IITians by paying things forward.
Dr. Juvanni A. Caballero also delivered a pitch during the event to introduce the Endowment Fund to the alumni community. This led certain participants to give spontaneous donations, which totals to P12,000 on top of another pledge by TOMA Awardee Rodolfo Romarate II amounting to P20,000.
The principal amount of the donations to the Endowment Fund will not be used to fund the programs directly, only the profit it generates. This will be invested by the Institute in long-term, low-risk, diverse investments to build a consistent stream of income that will fund programs requiring financial support. This is how ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø-IIT ensures that the impact and legacy of the donors will exist in perpetuity.
