Months of waiting for the launch of the new campus gate system finally come to a close today, February 14, 2025, as University Chancellor Alizedney M. Ditucalan, the Vice-Chancellors, College Deans, faculty, staff, and students gathered for the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, marking the opening of the integrated turnstile gate and boom barrier.
Leading the cutting of the ribbon were Chancellor Ditucalan and the Chancellor of the ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø-General Santos, Atty. Shidik T. Abantas.
More than just its aesthetic, this system is set to enhance the overall security of the University, said Mr. Richard Micubo, Director of the Database Administrator/Enrollment Systems Developer in his speech. According to him, this new setup can also be used to seamlessly incorporate the Daily Time Record (DTR) for the staff.
Moreover, this technology can provide close monitoring of the in and out of not only the ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø-IIT constituents but the visitors as well. Chancellor Ditucalan also discussed how this system can record the population of students more specifically, given that it can easily track the volume per day. Using plate number recognition, vehicles will be supervised.
Mr. Micubo said that they are still finalizing the configuration of the system with the supplier. A new ID design is currently being proposed by the Office of Communications, awaiting the Chancellor’s approval.
A quick registration process of the information of faculty, staff, and students and implementation is being hoped by the Chancellor. According to him, he is looking forward to migrating to the new ID design this August 2025, during the opening of a new academic year.
With the vision to create a smart campus, the Chancellor also banked on the equal importance of providing spaces that will elevate the learning experience of the students with the construction of new smart classrooms.
Starting Monday, February 17, 2025, the entrance will now be reverted to the main or maroon gate, while the black gate for the exit.
