²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø-IIT exceeds 2023 research targets

Fueled by its vision to become a research-intensive university, ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø hit another milestone this year by surpassing its 2023 performance targets in research. 

In the recent year-end assessment of the University, Prof. Gaudencio C. Petalcorin, Jr., Vice Chancellor for Research and Enterprise, reported that by the end of November, ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø-IIT had successfully completed 256 research outputs within the year, surpassing the initial target of 180. The university also presented 394 papers (surpassing the 180 target) in national, regional, and international forums/conferences and published 231 research papers (exceeding the 180 targets) in Scopus-indexed journals.

During the assessment, Dr. Petalcorin happily announced that ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø-IIT had reached the remarkable milestone of more than 1000 publications over the last five years, making it eligible for inclusion in the THE World Rankings in 2025.

In addition to the Scopus-indexed publications, ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø-IIT boasts 251 research articles published in other reputable scholarly journals. Nine of these research outputs (since 2021) have been successfully utilized by industries and other beneficiaries.

With a target of 50 by 2026, ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø-IIT is steadily progressing toward its goal, having established 12 student and employee start-ups in 2023 and produced eight graduates from Technology Business Incubators.

Chancellor Alizedney M. Ditucalan expressed his satisfaction during an interview, stating, "The record reflects the hard work and commitment to research and innovation on the part of our faculty and students. Their remarkable contributions are driving advancements in science and technology, influencing the future of Mindanao."

Other accomplishments under the cluster of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Enterprise in 2023 were the establishment of shared laboratories, establishment of research institutes, development of the rationalized Research Incentive Program, conduct of a series of research writeshops, writeshop on academic writing and publishing, hosting of 11 visiting professors who were conducting lectures on campus, hosting of the International Algebra Conference in the Philippines which was held in Cebu and hosting of the two grand lectures of retired faculty from the Department of Biological Sciences and former Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dr. Franco G. Teves, and retiring faculty from the Department of  Science and Mathematics, Dr. Sergio Canoy.
