The Office of the Vice-Chancellor for Research and Enterprise (OVCRE), through the Office of Research Management, held its Annual In-House Review (AIHR) of Research and Development (R&D) on October 11, 2024, as ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø-IIT strengthens its research culture, especially with its recent debut in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.
To provide an avenue to discuss the results and findings of R&D projects and identify patent-worthy technologies, this gathering aimed to cultivate a more well-rounded research culture in the University.
Dr. Mary Sylvette T. Gunigundo, Director of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), served as the keynote speaker, delivering a talk titled, "Building a Culture of Research". She highlighted the following subtopics–the Philippine Higher Education Landscape; the CHED Strategic Plan; Research Culture; and CHED Programs.
On behalf of Chancellor Alizedney M. Ditucalan, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Prof. Pamela Resurreccion gave the inspirational message and stated that it is an important opportunity to review research outputs and outgoing projects to appreciate the value of what has been discovered and consider how those discoveries can be shared to benefit others.
Vice Chancellor for Research and Enterprise, Prof. Ephrime Metillo, highlighted the significance of ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø-IIT’s inclusion in the THE World University Rankings. In his opening remarks, he emphasized that the University’s R&D activities are key contributors to this achievement, noting that sustaining and improving ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø-IIT's rank relies heavily on continuous research and innovation.
The event also featured a plenary talk by Dr. Elmer Jose P. Dadios, a professor and University Fellow from De La Salle University, who spoke on "From Lab to Market: Challenges and Opportunities - Personal Insights". His talk underscored the importance of translating research into practical applications, a goal that aligns with ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø-IIT’s efforts to promote research with real-world impact.
The afternoon session of the program was composed of oral and poster presentations of research from different disciplines, held at the PRISM building.
The day concluded with an awarding ceremony that recognized the outstanding contributions of the faculty researchers who participated in the event, further underscoring ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø-IIT’s commitment to fostering a dynamic research environment that contributes to its global reputation.
