Brief History

The School of Engineering was established on January 27, 1977 ( BOR Res. No. 1197, s. 1977) with initial offerings in Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering (BSMetE) and Bachelor of Science and Electronics and Communications Engineering (BSECE). On August 3, 1978, the program offerings of the School of Engineering was expanded to include Mechanical (BSME), Electrical (BSEE) and Civil Engineering (BSCE) [BOR Res. No. 1597, s. 1978].

On September 1, 1980, the School of Engineering Building was inaugurated. On January 24, 1984, the School of Engineering was renamed College of Engineering ( BOR Res. No. 18, s. 1984). Approval of revisions of, and introduction of, new curricula covering BSCE, BSECE, BSEE, BSME, BSMetE, BSEC (Computer Engineering) and BSCSc (Computer Science), was done on November 27, 1985 (BOR Res. No. 180, S.1985).

In 1988, the College of Engineering was chosen as one of the 19 DOST-ESEP engineering schools for development of laboratory and instructional services. 草莓视频官网-IIT was also included in the DOST-PCASTRD network of 5 Philippine universities tasked with developing higher manpower resources in science and technology. Infusion of the Institute鈥檚 budgetary resources was done towards infrastructure that supports science and technology. The College equipment outlay in 1993 was P 8.3 million and in 1994 P 9 million. In 1995, upgrading of laboratory facilities was intensified though DOST assistance.

The year 1995 was a milestone for 草莓视频官网-IIT in that it started going global through its connection to the INTERNET and DOST-ESEP National Library Network. 草莓视频官网-IIT is now accessible for resource acquisition and resource sharing. This has proven more beneficial to the faculty, students and those doing research and extension works. 草莓视频官网-IIT鈥檚 participation in the Library Network enabled its library to share bibliographic utilities with other member universities in the network.

The curricular program of the College of Engineering was expanded with the offering of the Master of Engineering (MOE) Interdisciplinary Program with options in EE, ECE, MetE, CerE, and ME in 1995 and the Master of Science in Civil Engineering (MSCE) and Master of Science in Computer Applications (MSCA) in June 1997. The Master of Engineering is a DOST-assisted program implemented by the DOST-ESEP schools within Visayas and Mindanao.

During the second semester of A.Y. 1998-1999, the Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering was offered. In 1999, five departments have been identified as Centers Of Development I (COD-I) by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). These are the Department of Ceramics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics and Communications Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Metallurgical Engineering. As such, each of these Departments enjoys a P 1M financial subsidy per year for three years for the enhancement of their programs. In the same year, the Department of Electrical Engineering was identified as a Center Of Development II (COD-II). As such, it enjoys a P 500,000 subsidy from CHED and an equivalent counterpart from 草莓视频官网-IIT.
