It provides a holistic view of how English and its varieties contribute to language policy and management and their effects to different communities of practice through language, people construct meanings, which represent their worldviews.

Sociology

The Masters in Sociology is designed to help students embark on a successful career in the field of education and research. Anchored on the pedagogy of engaged scholarship, this program provides the theoretical backgrounds and frameworks, analytical skills and tools, and community engagements, in order for students to sharpen their capacity to do critical analysis and evaluation of social problems, their significance, the structures and processes of power, and craft theories and models of social change. Political Science

The Master of Arts in Political Science (MAPOS) program is for the Filipino polity to be professionalized in the conduct of political affairs and who can effectively encourage the full participation of citizens in governance processes. Specifically, the graduates of the MA POS program should be able to: probe into and provide sound directions on issues or concerns of politics, governance, international relations and political change; update themselves and deepen their understanding as regards the theories and methods of the discipline; study systematically prolonged and recently evolved political phenomena and concerns; and, develop and assess interventions that could bring forth substantive democracy, improve the performance of political institutions, and reinforce the grounds for constructive inter-governmental and inter-non-governmental relations.

History

The Masters of Arts in History (MAH) program specializes in Philippine History as it sketches the important historical periods of the country starting from the Pre-16th century up to the Post-War Philippines. It must be emphasized too that since the events and issues in Mindanao are important facets of Philippine history, this program will make sure that the taker’s competencies in Philippine history are also anchored on a better understanding of Mindanao history as part of the larger context of the national community.

Public Administration

The Masters of Public Administration (MPA) is designed to meet the varying needs of public managers occupying strategic and technical positions in the government and volunteer sectors. This is a two-year degree course intended to mold students with administrative and management concepts and theories to critically analyze and formulate meaningful alternatives to address social problems. Research skills of students are enriched in the fields of local government administration and organization and management particularly in the areas of policy formulation and analysis, budgeting, and financial resource management, local and regional government and contemporary issues in public administration.

Students also have the opportunity to study in Indonesia as ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø-IIT and Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, Indonesia jointly offers the dual-degree program on Master of Public Administration (MPA) and Master of Government Affairs and Administration (MGAA) for a period of 5 semesters/ terms. Scholarship is available to deserving students which covers a) tuition fees; b) monthly stipend; and c) accommodation, among others.

Graduates of the ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø-IIT Master of Public Administration program are expected to demonstrate adequate knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of good governance, public service and administration; apply appropriate technology on public administration including planning, implementation, monitoring and human, material and resource management for government and civil society organizations; and to work with and for others in transforming community needs into public policy actions and solutions to promote a just and humane society.

Doctor of Philosophy in

Public Policy and Governance

The Doctor of Philosophy in Public Policy and Governance (PPG) is designed to be transdisciplinary. It is an integration of political science, public administration, sociology, anthropology, psychology, statistics and mathematics, and even the physical and natural sciences in some cases. PhD in PPG is intended to dissolve the boundaries between the conventional disciplines, transcending to a new space of engaged learning in which the areas of Political Science and Public Administration in particular are merged in order to equip students with profundity of understanding as well as adaptability to skills in public policy and governance, deemed critical in achieving national development in a globalized world. PhD in PPG equips students with advanced competencies that can spur and sustain leadership and innovation, creative and effective learning and teaching, good governance, inclusive economic development and environmental security, national sovereignty and independent international relations, cultural and religious diversity, and nationalism.

Since this program is designed to cater both academicians and practitioners, enrollees will be categorized as; Category A, B, and C upon evaluation of their Masteral degree credentials. Below are the categories of students and the corresponding number of bridging courses required specifically for Categories B and C enrollees:

Category A: These are graduates from any social science Masteral Thesis programs, allowed to carry a maximum of 12 units upon enrolment to the program.

Category B: These are graduates of any social science Masteral Non-Thesis programs, required to complete an additional nine (9) units bridging courses before enrolling to any core courses:

Category C: These are graduates of other disciplines Masteral programs, required to complete an additional twelve (12) units bridging courses before enrolling to any core courses.
