Abstract This paper seeks to revisit and look into the historical sources both written and oral accounts to reconstruct the history of Salay, Misamis Oriental during the Spanish period. The study is an archival research fundamentally anchored on a historical method that is descriptive and expository in approach. Through collection and examination of historical sources, the study shows that only Ereccion de Pueblos provides substantial information and evidence on Salay as a village and a pueblo. Most of the sources only mentioned Salay in passing as part of the cabecera-visita system in Provincia de Misamis. As a visita, the Recollects later replaced by the Jesuits facilitated its colonial evangelization. Around 1830s, Salay became a pueblo while it retained its ecclesiastical status as a visita of Jasaan in 1830 and Balingasag in 1849. This eventually led to the integration of Salay to colonial structure and transformation in almost all aspects of life–religious, political, cultural, and socio-economic.
