SPVM & The National Physics Conference
Recognizing the prominent role that physics plays in the world and the need to advance the culture of physics research and advocate basic and functional physics literacy in the Philippines, the Samahang Pisika ng Visayas at Mindanao (SPVM) gathers physics researchers, teachers, students and other physics enthusiasts to annual national physics conferences to listen to current physics research results from international and national experts and to showcase the latest physics-based outputs of its members. These physics enthusiasts are into diverse fields such as materials science, high energy physics, photonics, laser physics, computational and theoretical physics, and functional physics education programs for high school and college teachers. Divided into several plenary and parallel sessions and a poster session, the SPVM Conference provides an arena for close interaction between Filipino and foreign physics researchers/experts with local physics teachers and students from all over the country.
Previous SPVM conferences have been successfully conducted at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University, Zamboanga City (2001), University of San Carlos-Boys High School, Cebu City (2002), University of Southeastern Philippines, Davao City (2003), Ateneo de Cagayan de Oro-Xavier University, Cagayan de Oro City (2004), ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø-IIT, Iligan City (1999, 2000 & 2005), Notre Dame of Marbel University, Koronadal City (2006), Holy Name University, Tagbilaran City (2007), St. Louie University, Baguio City (2008), Father Saturnino Urios University, Butuan City (2009) and at Central Philippine University, Iloilo City (2010). Andres Bonifacio College in Dipolog City will be hosting the 13th SPVM Annual Conference on October 20 - 22, 2011. The roster of the 2011 SPVM Conference speakers will be posted on August 1, 2011.
SPVM, founded in 1995 and duly registered with the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC), holds office at the College of Science and Mathematics, ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø-Iligan Institute of Technology (²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø-IIT), Iligan City. Since then, SPVM has been very active in advocating the improvement of physics education and research in the Southern Philippines. More details about SPVM can be accessed at .
